Matiang’i hands power over to the new Interior Ministry Kithure

  • Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has officially taken over the security docket from his predecessor Fred Matiang’i. The handing-over ceremony was held in Nairobi on Tuesday at the Interior Ministry’s Harambee House headquarters. Matiang’i assumed the Ministry of Interior docket in July 2017, albeit in an acting capacity.

Following the unexpected passing of the then-interior minister Joseph Ole Nkaissery in July 2017, Matiang’i first took over the Ministry of Interior docket, albeit in an acting capacity.

Officially replacing his predecessor Fred Matiang’i as Interior Cabinet Secretary is Prof. Kithure Kindiki.

The Interior Ministry’s Harambee House headquarters in Nairobi hosted the handing-over event on Tuesday.

The Interior Ministry tweeted, “Prof. @KindikiKithure officially takes over from his predecessor Dr. Fred Matiang’i as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.”

Kindiki afterward thanked Matiang’i for his contribution to the country and the people of Kenya on his official Twitter account and wished the former CS well in his future undertakings.

“I’d want to express my gratitude to Dr. Fred Matiangi for serving as the cabinet secretary for interior and coordination of national government. I hope his subsequent tour of service goes well for him “Kindiki said.

Before being chosen as Interior Chief permanently in January 2018 when former President Uhuru Kenyatta formally announced his second cabinet, Matiang’i had previously served as both Interior and Education CS.

On October 27, 2022, Kindiki and the 24 Cabinet nominees that President William Ruto had nominated for the roles took the oath of office at State House in Nairobi after being vetted by the Cabinet.
